Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 June 2026

Synlog is a free electronic lab notebook that runs in your browser. It has no user accounts and no backend database. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information. This policy explains the few cases where data moves off your device, all of which happen only because you chose them.

Where your notebooks are stored

Everything you draw and type is saved only where you tell the app to save it:

  • In your browser- kept in your browser's local storage on your own machine.
  • On your computer - saved as a file on your own hard drive.
  • On your Google Drive - saved to your own Drive, if you connect it.

We never receive a copy of these notebooks. There is no server that we control which holds your data.

Google Drive access

If you choose to store notebooks on Google Drive, the app asks Google for the limited drive permission. This permission only lets the app see and manage the files it creates itself. It cannot read, list, or touch any other file in your Google Drive. We use this access solely to save and reopen your notebooks at your request, and the access token stays in your browser - it is never sent to us. You can revoke the app's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

Synlog's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Generating procedures with AI

The app has an optional "generate procedure" feature. When - and only when - you click it, the details of that one reaction (compound names, structures, quantities, and any draft text you wrote) are sent to Anthropic's API to produce a draft procedure, which is returned to you. Nothing else from your notebook is sent. If you never use this feature, no notebook data ever leaves your device. We do not store these requests, and the data is handled per Anthropic's privacy policy.

Analytics and tracking

The app contains no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not use cookies to identify you.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
